Another new year

Posted on March 9, 2017 at 7:30 PM Comments comments (9)

It is a new year and almost a year since my last post. Not much has changed. I will putting some eggs in the incubator soon. I have eaten, cooked and baked with a few checking each egg for fertility. The fertility is increasing since I set up some of the breeding pens. I'll have a limited amount of eggs that I can ship this month (March 2017). In April I should have more to ship. I'm shipping on Mon., Tues., Wed. I don't want to take the chance of eggs getting stuck in a facility over a weekend. I just finished setting up the last of the breeding pens. I want the best males with the best females for thr best chicks. I recently cleaned out the bachelor pens and they have converted back to breeding pens. I have been letting the females clean out that are in these pens but want to give them a little time to become fertile again with their males. I hope I will get some good people who will agree to be testers. I will mark the eggs according to which breeding coop they are from and hopefully will get some feedback on how each hatch is. That's this year's hatching goal.

Hatching time again

I haven't been on much lately. Trying to get outdoor projects done before the summer heat. Lately I have been replacing all of the chicken wire in my pens with welded wire. Our gardens are growing beautifully. What  we can't eat the chickens will. My first hatch for this season is due next week. The another hatch the following week and the last hatch 2 weeks after that hatch. Looking forward to seeing the chicks. All of the few eggs that I candled looked good. Hopefully that means great hatches.

Monthly Farm Swaps

Just a reminder of our monthly Farm Swaps.

The Crystal River Mall Rural King Farm Swap the 4th Saturday Monthly
We have a lot of buyers but need more sellers/vendors. People getting together. If you are just thinking about chickens or small livestock or already have an established flock, then you won't want to miss these events. Come join us for a day of talking, swapping and selling poultry and small livestock. Swap stories and information. Have some chickens you need to re-home, maybe Rabbits, goats, a calf, pigs, eating eggs or hatching eggs to sell? How about some pieces of old farm... equipment, a small tractor, harrow or what have you. Maybe you have plants and trees. Also things like soaps and lotions, etc., made from (example) goats milk are ok to sell. What are you going to do? Bring it on down to the Farm Swaps. We suggest vendors bring either a canopy or umbrella, there are some shaded areas, some open areas. These are farm swaps only so we ask that there are no flea market or garage sale items. Tell your neighbors, tell your friends, heck we don’t care if you tell your enemies. Meet us for a beautiful day of chatting, buying, selling or swapping your farm related wares. As Always, No Fees! Come join us for our Monthly Farm Swaps @

Posted on April 29, 2015 at 12:40 AM Comments comments (0)

We know this is rather early but want to make everyone aware that we will not be at the October Farm Swap Meet at the Crystal River Mall and Rural King Farm Swap on October 24th 2015. There is a Central Florida Poultry Breeders Association Fall Show at the auditorium at the Citrus County Fairgrounds on the same date, we will be at the poultry show that weekend. Anyone wanting to go to the swap is very welcome to. Last year we tried to have the swap the preceeding weekend and not many showed up. A couple of us that normally attend the swap will be attending the poultry show that same weekend. Again if anyone wishes to go to the swap, we have not cancelled it but we won't be there that weekend.

At the Lake City, Florida Poultry Show. A young girl showed a Single Comb Rhode Island Red cockerel I had hatched and raised in the youths and got a Champion with him. I am so proud. He was the brother to my other two birds a cockerel and a pullet that won recently Champions at the Inverness, Florida Poultry Show.

Here they are after getting baths on a nice warm day getting ready for the show, not happy

Egg Shipping Kits

Posted on October 19, 2014 at 11:50 AM Comments comments (0)

We are offering foam egg shipping kits. Each kit includes shipping label, shipping caution handling label along with a box and foam for shipping. Also included is a Hatching Eggs Disclaimer and a Hatching Tip Sheet. All you will have to do is add the eggs seal the box and put on the labels. We will be offering several different sizes for different amounts of eggs. We will be accepting special orders. Most people who ship eggs do get the foam shippers with extra holes to add extra eggs (example: we will have foam shippers for 12 eggs and 15 eggs, so someone could order a dozen eggs but will actually get 15 eggs). We will initially only be offering them for standard size chicken eggs. We will at a later date be adding Quail egg and Bantam egg shipping kits. We can make foam eggs holders for as many or as few eggs wanted. Check out our store for more information.

We will be offering eggs for sale after the first of the new year. We will have Heritage Single Comb Rhode Island Red and Rose Comb Rhode Island White eggs available. Also we will be offering Red Sex-Link eggs. In the future we will be adding Heritage Rose Comb Rhode Island Red eggs. Also in the future we will be considering shipping straight run chicks.
